News broke in December about the potential name change for the New Orleans Hornets. Marc Spears broke the news with a list of potential team names. When the list was revealed, Twitter exploded with a favorite being the Pelicans. Now we know these things take time. Whenever a team or player want to change something, whether it's their name or jersey number or team name, the board reviews, the trademarks need to go through and the branding needs to begin. That is why it's shocking that today Marc Spears is reporting that the Hornets are going to make their announcement on the team name change to the Pelican.
According to Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports, the Hornets are set to officially announce their name change to the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday, and they’ll also unveil a new logo and color scheme (blue, red, and gold) that will be used as soon as next seasonvia The Point Forward
We all know about the change now. I want to dive in and remember one of the league's best mascots, Hugo the Hornet. He will forever be missed but never forgotten. Take the jump to see some of our favorite Hugo moments.
This is just a great example of how loyal Hugo was to the fan base. A couple of annoying Nugget fans trying to ruin a beautiful moment of two people displaying their love. Well Hugo was not having any of that. He knew where to put that cake...
Hugo had one of the best personalities and senses of humor. Just loved to be a jokester at all times. Here Hugo is scaring kids during his off day because that's what hard working mascots do. They entertain, not only during games, but outside of the arena all year long.
Lastly, how could we forget his great acting skills in the classic ESPN commercials?
