There are blowouts, and then there are routs. And then there are lambastes. And then there are trounces. And then there are clobberings. Also thrashings. Whichever one of those you find to be most devastating, that's what the Thunder did to the Bobcats last night. As you can see if the photo above, OKC led by 54 at one point in the third quarter. 54!
This game ended up at 114-69, so the Cats were able to bring it within 45, which is far from respectable. Although the Thunder were up by 40 at the half, so if you think about it the Bobcats only lost by five in the battle of the second half. But seriously, anytime Hasheem Thabeet plays enough minutes (27) to accumulate a double-double (13 and 10) you know the game wasn't even close to close.
It comes at an odd time too as the Bobcats have moved somewhat into relevancy as of late, off to their strongest start in franchise history. They remain above .500 at 7-6 but they came out in this game looking like the old Bobcats we've come to know and love. The Thunder may have brought the bumbling Bobcats back to Earth a bit here. We may start seeing what the group of young overachievers are actually capable of very soon.
Hopefully, they'll just scrap this one, put it behind them and turn some heads with a continued successful Bobcats season, which would be a nice change of pace.
More incredible stats after the jump.
