Amare lost someone that was very close to him, his brother Hazell. Although Hazell has a past that he would like to forget, no one deserves to have their life taken at such a young age. I am not going to detail Hazell's history with the law and how tough his life has been with the struggles without parental guidance, you can read about that stuff here, Hazell Stoudemire.
Instead, we are here for Amare. It is never easy to lose a family member, especially a sibling. No doubt this week is going to be tough on Amare and we can only hope that he takes out his frustrations on opposing teams which would help turn the Knicks lowly season around.
New York Knicks' best reporter Frank Isola broke the news:
Amar'e Stoudemire returned to Florida early Monday following the death of his older brother, Hazell, who died in a car accident.
The Knicks announced that Stoudemire would not be available for Monday's home game against the Utah Jazz and that there is no timetable for his return. Funeral arrangements have yet to be announced.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, the accident occurred on Route 27 in Lake Wales. The older Stoudemire was driving at "a high rate of speed" when he collided with the rear of a tractor trailer. He died at the scene.
The Florida Highway Patrol says Stoudemire was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident and they are unsure if alcohol was a factor.
