A Game of Faces

After watching Game 2 of the Orlando Magic vs Boston Celtics at the Amway Arena, I have decided one team has the killer instinct and the other team lacks.  Winning teams are focused and determine to accomplish their goals.  Teams that don’t win lack the focus and drive more than the talent at this stage of the playoffs.

People always talk about how mean and intense KG is and for good reason, the guy is wired to win.  He is always mean mugging people, talking trash, and getting under people’s skin, which if you are going to do these things, you better back it up.

Late in the 4th quarter with Orlando down one point, the camera zoomed in on Dwight Howard smiling and joking.  Do you think the Celtics cracked a smile prior to the final buzzer?  Granted Dwight did have a nice game to smile about, but the wins are not here.  Some say the Magic’s play in the first two series softened them up for this series where they were not expecting to get hit in the mouth.

Even after being hit, the Magic continued to seem as though this game was a regular season game.  Under a minute left, down 3 points, Vince Carter was seen winking at the camera.  The next play Vince gets fouled by Pierce (his 6th foul) and gets a chance to make it a 1-point game.  He bricked both free throws.

My point is if you want to win you need to be mean and aggressive.  Do you think Kobe would ever pick up a player from the other team like Matt Barnes did?  Do you think Jordan would be smiling if his team was losing?  Do you think Larry Bird would wink at the camera down 3, well he probably would, but he wouldn’t miss two crucial free throws.  The Magic need to find their mean spirit if they want to compete in this series and compete for their first ever title.
